“But He laid his right hand on me, saying, “Fear not, I am the first and the last, and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.”
Don’t underestimate the power and assurance that comes from Jesus’ statement “…behold I am alive forevermore.” Don’t allow the fact that Jesus is alive become common thought to you. I still get excited when I think about the fact that He is alive. He’s not dead. He’s alive. Forever. This is the Lion of the tribe of Judah who has triumphed. Death couldn’t keep Him. The grave couldn’t hold Him down. He is the victorious One. He’s alive! The Lion of the tribe of Judah conquered and now sits at the right hand of the Father. Forever. Victorious.
Him being alive (forever) means alot of things for me and for you:
1) As long as He is alive, I have hope. I have a living Hope. No matter how bleak things look, no matter how hard times may get, I can walk in hope. I can walk in hope knowing He is faithful. I can walk in hope that He makes all things new and beautiful. I can walk in hope that one day soon He is coming back for me.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to His great mercy, He has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead...” – 1 Peter 1:3
2) As long as He is alive, I have purpose. He gives me purpose. My life is filled with purpose. It’s not meaningless. It’s not random. Before I was born, He thought about me. He dreamed about me. He loved me. He fashioned me with careful thought as a sculpture would his art piece.
“ For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” – Eph 2:10
“The Lord will fulfill His purpose for me; Your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.” – Ps 138:8
“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” – Jer 29:11
3) As long as He is alive, I have destiny. I don’t wander around aimless with no destination in mind. My destiny is Jesus. There are other things in my life that are a part of my destiny, but those things are just part of the journey to my ultimate destination. There are many uncertainties in this world. There are many things that I don’t know, I don’t understand, who knows where I’ll end up 10 years from now, or what I will be doing in 5 years. Things are constantly changing. But one thing (not the only thing) that is a constant in the midst of all the unknown is my destiny. He is my inheritance -to see Him face to face and receive a Kingdom that is not of this world. I am an heir to a coming, unshakable Kingdom. My life begins and ends with Jesus.
” The Lord is my inheritance and my cup. You are the one who determines my destiny.” – Ps 16:5
” But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and He will stand upon the earth at last. I will see Him for myself. Yes, I will see Him with my own eyes.” – Job 19:25, 27
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” – Rev 21:1-4
